In the race to introduce secure facial authentication, Apple's iOS may have taken the lead with Face ID but if reports are to be believed then Android Q is likely to catch up with iOS.
According to a report on XDADevelopers, the upcoming Android OS may ditch the insecure "Trusted Face" feature, which is part of Google play Services has existed for many years now, in favour of a revamped feature.
While Apple iPhone X was the first to combine a Time of Flight (TOF) sensor, IR illuminator, dot projector, and other sensors for hardware facial recognition (Apple calls it 'Face ID'), other Android device makers have adopted similar features but have had to heavily customize Android to support this new hardware.
However, it seems that Google is working on bringing native support for secure facial recognition hardware in Android Q.
