AWS announces general availability of Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive

Amazon Web Services announced the general availability of Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive, a new storage class that provides secure, durable object storage for long-term retention of data that is rarely accessed. At just $0.00099 per GB-month (less than one-tenth of one cent, or $1 per TB-month), S3 Glacier Deep Archive offers the lowest cost storage in the cloud, at prices significantly lower than storing and maintaining data in on-premises magnetic tape libraries or archiving data off-site.
Organizations in many market segments (e.g., financial services, healthcare, and government, etc.) are required to retain data for long periods of time to meet regulatory compliance requirements. In addition, there are organizations, such as media and entertainment companies, that want to keep a backup copy of core intellectual property. These datasets are often very large, consisting of multiple petabytes, and yet typically only a small percentage of this data is ever accessed—once or twice a year at most. To retain data long-term, many organizations turn to on-premises magnetic tape libraries or offsite tape archival services. However, maintaining this tape infrastructure is difficult and time-consuming; tapes degrade if not properly stored and require multiple copies, frequent validation, and periodic refreshes to maintain data durability. Additionally, it is difficult or impossible to do machine learning and other types of analysis directly on data stored on tape. Now, with S3 Glacier Deep Archive, customers with large datasets they want to retain for long periods will be able to eliminate both the cost and management of tape infrastructure, while ensuring that their data is preserved for future use and analysis, such as in oil and gas seismic exploration and developing autonomous vehicles. Customers can still use S3 Glacier when they want retrieval options in minutes for archive data, while S3 Glacier Deep Archive is ideal for customers who want the lowest cost for archive data that is rarely accessed. In the event that recovery becomes necessary, the objects can be recovered in as little as 12 hours with S3 Glacier Deep Archive versus days or weeks with off-site tape.

Supercomputer set to be ready by 2021

Intel and the US Department of Energy (DOE) will deliver the first supercomputer with a performance of one exaFLOP in the US. The system being developed at DOE's Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, named "Aurora", will be used to dramatically advance scientific research and discovery. The contract is valued at more than $500 million and will be delivered to Argonne National Laboratory by Intel and sub-contractor Cray Inc in 2021.
The system's exaFLOP of performance - equal to a "quintillion" floating point computations per second - combined with an ability to handle both traditional high performance computing (HPC) and AI will give researchers an unprecedented set of tools to address scientific problems at exascale.
These breakthrough research projects range from developing extreme scale cosmological simulations, discovering new approaches for drug response prediction and discovering materials for the creation of more efficient organic solar cells. The Aurora system will foster new scientific innovation and usher in new technological capabilities, furthering the US scientific leadership position globally.
"Achieving exascale is imperative, not only to better the scientific community but also to better the lives of everyday Americans," said Rick Perry.

ROOMBA i7+: Bye bai.

New-gen robot cleaners map your room and clean it like a pro.

The recently launched iRobot Roomba i7 and i7+ smart home robot use spacial recognition techniques to map the co-ordinates of your room and figure out the optimum path to clean the room. For every room.

The recently launched iRobot Roomba i7 and i7+ smart home robot use spacial recognition techniques to map the co-ordinates of your room and figure out the optimum path to clean the room. For every room.
While everything else in your house is getting smarter -- from the TV to the refrigerator to the AC -- why not a home cleaning solution? Having a human being clean up for you might seem a waste of human effort, especially since technology today, is smart enough to clean your household just as -- if not more -- efficiently than a human being.
The recently launched iRobot Roomba i7 and i7+ smart home robot use spacial recognition techniques to map the coordinates of your room and figure out the optimum path to clean the room. For every room, the Roomba 'remembers' a different map, which includes aspects such as furniture, orientation, and co-ordinates. The iRobot sits at a central docking station for charging, and being given orders, it travels along the pre-mapped area to clean the room. Being entirely app-based, you can operate Roomba while you are away from home when there are no human beings present in the room or any motion to disturb the map.
Compared to earlier models, the Roomba i7+ self-empties the collected dust, by going back to the docking station and emptying the dirt into a collection chamber that can be manually emptied, once the 'collection bag' is full in about a month. iRobot claims that its filter mechanism captures 99 per cent of pollen, mould, dust mites, and cat and dog allergens. Roomba i7 automatically adjusts the height of the cleaning head so that while one brush loosens and agitates dirt, the other moves in the opposite direction to extract and pull the dirt in.
And like many smart appliances today, the i7 Roomba is Alexa-ready. If you have already set up an Amazon Echo, you can say: "Alexa, tell Roomba to start cleaning!"
Roomba i7+ is priced at Rs 89,990, while the i7, which comes without the dust collection bin, costs Rs 69,900.

With a vision to reinvent the home and make it exciting and engaging, the brand is aimed to become a brand-of-choice for smart home appliances. Designed by Foley Designs, the Ottomate Smart Fans are elegant yet simple and functional, and are conceived and executed by Ottomate’s India-based R&D team.
Powered by the Qualcomm’s BLE 5.0 chipset with CSR Mesh, and with industry-grade digital temperature and humidity sensors, the Ottomate smart fan connects to your phone seamlessly, allowing you smooth and complete control at your fingertips. The Ottomate app (and the ‘Smart Mate’ remote which comes as a separate accessory) allows users to choose across manual mode and a range of very intuitive pre-set modes - namely Otto Mode, Breeze Mode, Turbo Mode and Master Switch. In the manual mode, users can set the fan to the exact speed they need (unlike the conventional fans which has only 5 speeds) using the MY AIR TECHNOLOGY of this innovative product. The OTTO mode is where the fan becomes truly autonomous, using its digital sensors to adjust the fan speed to the ambient room temperature and humidity. The BREEZE mode pre-set changes the fan speed cyclically to create a natural breeze effect, thus creating a pleasant outdoor vibe even while you sit indoors. The TURBO mode is for instances when even the max speed of the fan even feel enough, allowing the fan to surge 10% higher than the maximum, providing instant respite from extreme heat. Finally, the MASTER SWITCH, which uses the highly innovative CSR Mesh over the BLE 5.0 chip, is a one-touch way to switch off/on all the Ottomate devices in the home, making it a super-convenient features especially at night, when you are ready to sleep or at your doorstep, when you are leaving home.Designed by Foley Designs, winner of many national and international awards, the look and feel of the Ottomate Smart Fan is unique, trendy and premium - and aimed at providing elegance to complement the interiors of a modern Indian households. With best-buy prices starting at just Rs 3,999, the Ottomate Smart Fan is a mix of excellent design, affordable price and smart features that resonate well with the technologically advancing society.
Even before launch, the company already has 100+ service centres up and running across the country, which will also provide FREE home installation and feature demonstration to their customers.
